Festival Director, Fran Barbe, explores a series of seminal butoh exercises offered as an introduction to those new to Butoh, or as a warm-up for anyone attending the afternoon workshops. Open to all ages and levels.
These short sessions (bookable separately) focus on some of the key principles of Butoh’s approach to movement and creativity:
•Session 1 The Spine Sat 3 Oct 2009 10am – 11.30 am
£15 per session or £5 when booking S. Lynch Workshop.
Explores the importance of the spine for the flow of energy and expressivity.
•Session 2 Walking Sat 17 Oct 2009 10am – 11.30 am
£15 per session or £5 when booking Y. Yoshioka Workshop
Explores a series of walks that carry some of the key principles of this approach.
•Session 3 Not Moving, Being Moved Sat 14 Nov 2009 10am – 11.30 am
£15 per session or £5 when booking T. Endo Workshop
Explores the quality of ‘not moving, being moved’, that Butoh cultivates.
After more than 17 years of experience as performer, choreographer and scholar, Fran supports these practical sessions with insights on the cultural and historical context of Butoh.
