Highly inspirational, and always deeply practical, Lorna’s incredible wisdom and experience, as well as her playful and supportive teaching style make her workshops rich creative zones to explore the themes of character, transformation, and the dramaturgy of the body.
Lorna Marshall is an international practitioner and author, renowned for her depth of knowledge in working with the performer’s body towards greater creative freedom. She has worked as actor trainer and movement director with both the Royal Shakespeare Company and Shared Experience, as well as the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and the New National Theatre of Japan. She operates across a range of performance disciplines, including opera, circus and text-based theatre.

Lorna’s books have inspired a whole generation of artists. They include: The Body Speaks, and The Invisible Actor which she wrote with Yoshi Oida with whom she has worked extensively all over the world.

We are happy to host Lorna’s third workshop for TTI and know her work will be popular, please book in advance to avoid disappointment.
Friday - Sunday, 29 - 31 August 2008

Mestro Urias De Oliviera will lead an intensive course in dance, song and percussion, that draws upon the African heritage of Brazil, specifically, the ‘Orixås’ and ‘The Bumba Boi’ – dynamic songs, dances and storytelling traditions from the very roots of folk and popular culture of Brazil.

The specific movement qualities introduced will provide powerful shared experiences for the group as a model for ensemble theatre practice, and there will be time to work on songs and instruments separately by including drum patterns and call and response songs. Each day will start with Capoeira Angola as our warm up.

This challenging mix of physicality, rhythm and voice cultivates strength and groundedness whilst maintaining fluidity, flexibility and responsiveness to the group through the rodå (circle) work. A unique opportunity to experience work that can awaken the body and the psyche of the actor.

This workshop was made possible by a collaboration with TTI’s partners, ZECORA URA http://www.zecoraura.com/ and URBAN DOLLS PROJECT http://www.para-active.com/urban/index.html
