❝ Developing the art of live performance through challenging practice ❞

to the website for the London-based Theatre Training Initiative. For performers, training is a way of life that lasts the full length of our careers. Theatre Training Initiative aims to support that journey by providing workshops by excellent teachers, of inspirational methods, that interrogate the fundamental issues faced by performers across all disciplines.
We cater to the needs of students at the beginning of their career, and professionals looking for new inspirations or approaches to develop their skills and creativity.

2009 marks the 50th anniversary of Butoh and the continuing influence of this Japanese art form on the development of world contemporary performance. Tatsumi Hijikata's performance of Kinjiki (Forbidden Colours) in 1959 is considered the first ever Butoh performance, and since then Butoh has taken root in all continents of the world.
TTI’s workshops, talks and screenings celebrate Butoh’s past and open up debate about the future of Butoh within the contemporary performance landscape.
